KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said today it has released a senior Sabah Umno leader under investigation for a criminal breach of trust (CBT) case involving RM300 million.
The unnamed politician was taken into custody last Friday and released the same day after his statements were recorded, MACC director of investigations Datuk Mohd Jamidan Abdullah said in a statement.
“He is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 for allegations of corruption elements in a government owned land compensation deal.
“He was released after this statement was recorded,” he said.
Earlier today, Sabahan newspaper Daily Express reported a Sabah Umno division leader was detained at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Thursday on corruption allegations.
The leader is believed to be a former state agency chairman and heads one of the 25 Umno divisions in Sabah.
He was also believed to be one of the division leaders who met with the Prime Minister on July 10 for a meeting to discuss, among others, a “transitional plan” for the Sabah Umno leadership.
Umno’s Sepanggar MP Datuk Jumat Idris, who was also at the meeting in July, in a Facebook post this morning questioned the decision to detain the division leader and suggested it could be motivated by revenge for the “transitional plan” ~ The Malay Mail
