Ahli Parlimen UMNO dipenjara 6 tahun kerana menipu RM80,000



KUALA LUMPUR, 1 Mac — Ahli parlimen Sabak Bernam, Datuk Abdul Rahman Bakri dan pembantunya Rosli Busro hari ini dijatuhkan hukuman enam tahun penjara dan denda RM400,000 seorang kerana membuat lapan tuntutan palsu.


Hukuman dijatuhkan di Mahkamah Sesyen Shah Alam hari ini oleh Hakim Azhaniz Teh Azman setelah mendapati pihak pembelaan gagal menimbulkan keraguan terhadap kes pendakwa.

Abdul Rahman, 47, dari Umno dituduh membuat tuntutan palsu dengan nilai RM10,000 setiap satu yang berjumlah RM80,000 daripada peruntukan kawasannya berhubung majlis yang tidak pernah dijalankan.

Dia dituduh membuat tuntutan itu di antara 21 Januari dan 4 Februari 2008 ketika menjadi ADUN Sungai Ayer Tawar.

Sementara itu, pembantunya, turut didakwa bersubahat dalam membuat tuntutan palsu berkenaan turut didapati bersalah.

Abdul Rahman didakwa di bawah seksyen 11 (a) Akta Pencegahan Rasuah 1997 dan menghadapi hukuman penjara sehingga 20 tahun dan denda lima kali nilai suapan.

Walaupun telah didapati bersalah, tidak akan berlaku pilihan raya kecil bagi kerusi yang didudukinya kerana Abdul Rahman telah berkhidmat lebih dari tempoh dua per tiga di kawasan berkenaan.

Umno MP and aide get six-year jail terms

KUALA LUMPUR, March 1 — Umno MP for Sabak Bernam Datuk Abdul Rahman Bakri and his aide Rosli Busro were sentenced today to six years’ jail and fined RM400,000 each for making false claims.

But the Shah Alam Sessions Court granted them a stay of execution pending appeal.

The court had yesterday found the two guilty on eight counts of making false claims totalling RM80,000 for events that never took place four years ago.

The Barisan Nasional (BN) lawmaker was accused of committing the offences while a Sungai Air Tawar assemblyman before Election 2008.

The 47-year-old was charged under section 11(c) of the Anti-Corruption Act 1997 in November 2009 with falsely claiming RM10,000 each time between January 21 and February 4, 2008.

Sessions Court judge Azhaniz Teh Azman Teh had found the two guilty after finding that the defence had failed to raise reasonable doubt in the prosecution’s case.

Despite being pronounced guilty, there will be no by-election in the constituency as Abdul Rahman has served more than two-thirds of his term.
